Head of Community Safety Department
Paul joined SYP in early 1984. He spent his first nine years at West Bar Police Station working primarily on response policing, but also in CID and as a Community Officer.
He became a uniformed Sergeant at Hammerton Road Police Station in Sheffield before being appointed the Assistant Staff Officer to the Chief Constable. On promotion to Barnsley District, he undertook the roles of Duty Group Inspector, Support and Personnel Inspector and PSU Inspector, with responsibility for Football Policing and other events. He then moved to Complaints and Discipline, working on an Investigation Team for two years, before moving to Community Safety as the Minorities Inspector where he was responsible for rationalising SYP’s policing links with India and Pakistan.
Paul became a Chief Inspector at Rotherham and was responsible for the establishment of Safer Neighbourhood Teams and chaired many partnership groups including the Safer Rotherham Partnership. He also accredited as a Tactical Firearms Commander.
Following a year working on a Regional Project, looking at collaboration issues and the processes involved in a regional response to major incidents, he was again posted to the Community Safety Department, prior to the move to the new Lifewise Centre at Hellaby, Rotherham.
Paul took over as Head of Community Safety in September 2012.
