Chief Constable Meredydd Hughes

Meredydd Hughes joined the South Wales Constabulary in 1979, on leaving university. Whilst predominately serving in uniform operational duties at all levels, he has also worked as the Force Crime Prevention Officer; as an authorised firearms officer; as an IT project manager and on secondment to the HMIC at the Home Office.
Transfer to West Yorkshire Police in 1995 as a Superintendent saw him take up the post of Divisional Commander in the Calder Valley. This was followed by two years as the Commander of the Operational Support Division, where he was responsible for units as diverse as the Air Support Unit, Search and Firearms Teams, and the Mounted Section. During this time he was also Silver Commander at Leeds United FC, and led cross-border operations and major firearms incidents.
Promoted in 1999 to Assistant Chief Constable in Greater Manchester Police, he initially took responsibility for IT, Criminal Justice, and Communications. In September 2000, he took charge of the Uniform Operations Portfolio, and in that role led the policing of numerous public order and major sporting events, including England football internationals, and commanded the successful delivery of the Commonwealth Games.
Promoted to Deputy Chief Constable in South Yorkshire in September 2002, and to Chief Constable in September 2004, he leads the ACPO Uniformed Operations Business Area and is ACPO Vice Chair of the Olympic Games Business Area, and is the Senior Responsible Officer for the Demand and Resources Project.
He was awarded the Queen’s Police Medal in the 2006 New Year Honours.
Off duty, his hobbies include rock climbing and mountaineering, running, and mountain biking.
Deputy Chief Constable Bob Dyson
Bob Dyson was born in Sheffield but emigrated to Melbourne, Australia, at the age of 10. His police career began as a police cadet in the Victoria State Police but was put on a temporary hold when he returned to South Yorkshire with his family. He subsequently joined South Yorkshire Police as a constable in November 1976.
During his career he has worked in a number of roles and locations across the county, including Roads Policing, Community Policing, Personnel, Operations Manager at Rotherham, Head of Community Safety and, as a Chief Superintendent, he was the District Commander for Barnsley.
Bob has also worked as a Staff Officer to Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary for a period of two years where he was responsible for inspecting police forces in the North East Region.
Bob has a Master's Degree in Human Resource Management and a Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Criminology and Police Management from Cambridge University.
Since joining the Force Senior Command Team in 2003 he has been the Assistant Chief Constable with responsibility for Personnel followed by being the Assistant Chief Constable with responsibility for Territorial Operations which included the development of Neighbourhood Policing. In 2007 Bob was appointed as Deputy Chief Constable, his portfolio includes Professional Standards, Business Change and Legal Services.
He holds the ACPO Portfolio for Policing Sporting Events in Stadiums (other than football) and is a member of the ACPO Public Order Working Group
Assistant Chief Constable Andy Holt
ACC Holt looks after the Force's territorial operations, dealing with all South Yorkshire districts on local policing. He also has responsibility for the forces Community Safety department. A former Chief Superintendent with Greater Manchester Police, he joined South Yorkshire Police in 2006.
Prior to joining the Police Service he served as an officer in HM Royal Marines and saw active service in both Northern Ireland and the Falklands. On leaving the Royal Marines in 1982 he set up a business in Stockport before joining Greater Manchester Police in 1986.
During his 20 years service in GMP he completed a BA (Hons) at Manchester Metropolitan University and went on to command a Subdivision in Moss Side, Manchester. In 2003 he was promoted to Chief Superintendent and subsequently commanded both the Bury and Trafford Divisions of GMP. Whilst working as the Commander of Manchester's Trafford division he was the police Commander at Manchester United's Old Trafford football ground for many premiership and England international fixtures.
On joining South Yorkshire Police he was the ACC responsible for Specialist Operations and became the ACPO lead on police pursuits.
Mr Holt has a wife and three children and his hobbies include skiing, sailing, reading and watching his children play sport.
Assistant Chief Constable Max Sahota
Max began his career with Warwickshire Police in 1987 and later transferred to West Midlands Police where he experienced a wide range of policing challenges, before joining South Yorkshire Police as an Assistant Chief Constable. During his 22 years service he has spent time in Uniform Operations, Proactive Crime Teams and the Criminal Investigation Department. Max has been Police Commander at a number of Championship and Premiership football grounds in West Midlands Police and his final posting there was as Divisional Commander in Coventry City which was designated a priority BCU.
He has also worked with Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary as a staff officer in London.
Max holds a BSc degree in Chemistry, a Post Graduate Certificate in Education and a Diploma in Management. More recently he received recognition as a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute.
He now has responsibility as ACC for Crime, Operations and Criminal Justice in South Yorkshire Police, ncluding counter terrorism, serious and major crime and the Force Communications Centre. Portfolio extends to include firearms public order and roads policing.
Max is the Project Executive for Regional Crime Collaboration in the Yorkshire & Humber Region which includes oversight responsibility for the United Kingdom Human Trafficking Centre.
Max is married with two children. His hobbies are mainly dictated by what his children want and need but include keeping fit and running!

Director of Finance and Administration Nigel Hiller
Nigel Hiller joined South Yorkshire Police in December 1995. He has portfolio responsibility for Corporate Finance, Facilities Management, Information Systems, Supply Chain Management and Vehicle Fleet Management.
Since joining South Yorkshire Police and in order to gain an understanding of policing issues, Nigel successfully completed the operational commanders programme at the police staff college, Bramshill, together with an advanced diploma in management from the University of Manchester.
Nigel is a member of the Association of Chief Police Officers of England and Wales.
Prior to joining South Yorkshire Police Nigel worked in local government at the District of Bolsover and in the National Health Service at Rotherham Health Authority, North and South Derbyshire Health Authority and Trent Regional Health Authority.
Nigel is a qualified accountant and a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy and also a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants.
In terms of professional commitment outside the force, Nigel is presently a member of the Institute Council of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) and chair of its Financial Management Panel he is also past chair of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants Public Sector Committee.
He is a member of the ACPO Finance Committee and ACPO Procurement Sub-Committee.
Nigel is married to Susan and has two children. His outside interests include being proud to serve as a Governor at Netherthorpe School, Staveley, Derbyshire, which was founded in 1572 and which he attended for his secondary education. His other interests include walking by the coast, Formula 1 and anything to do with four wheels!
