Police appeal for witnesses to a serious assault and robbery in Sheffield

Police are appealing for witnesses to an alleged robbery and assault that took place at the bus stop opposite the Northern General Hospital, at the junction of Herries Road and Norwood Road, Sheffield.

The incident occurred at approximately 10pm on Friday, 28 December, where it is believed a 65-year-old local woman was dragged to the floor by a male attempting to take her shoulder bag.

Whilst Lorna Hobson, a member of staff from The Northern General Hospital was on the floor, the male has seriously assaulted her and she has sustained serious facial injuries including heavy bruising to the face.

Two males were seen running away from the scene with the woman’s handbag and its contents, which included her purse, work clothing and paperwork.

The males are described as being between 16 and 20-years old, 6ft tall, dark complexion and skinny build.  One of them were wearing grey jogging bottoms and a dark top.

Detectives would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have information leading to the arrest of the men.  People are urged to contact police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting incident number 1130 of 28 December 2012.
