Officers are appealing to parents and children who may have witnessed a robbery at Rotherham Leisure Centre in Eastwood.
Between 5.40pm and 6.20pm on Thursday 30 November, it was reported an 11-year-old boy had been waiting in the entrance of Rotherham Leisure Centre when he was approached by a boy who engaged him in a conversation and asked for money.
As the 11-year-old began to walk away, the boy continued to engage him in a conversation before hitting him in the face and stealing a small quantity of cash.
The 11-year-old sustained minor injuries in the incident and was left very upset by what had happened.
PC Rebecca Rushton who is investigating the incident has said: “This was an unprovoked attack on a young boy by someone of a similar age and we have been making enquiries to understand exactly what has happened.
“I’m sure any parent would hate for this to have happened to their child and I would urge anyone who may have been in the leisure centre around the time of the incident to please report it.”
The boy has been described as around the same age as the 11-year-old and wearing a leather jacket with a hooded top underneath.
