Chief Constable David Crompton
David took up his appointment as Chief Constable of South Yorkshire Police in April 2012.
From 2004 to 2012 he served as both Assistant Chief Constable and Deputy Chief Constable in West Yorkshire. During that period he was involved in the response to the 7/7 Bombings, the operation to catch the killers of WPC Sharon Beshenivsky and the investigation into the kidnapping of the Dewsbury schoolgirl Shannon Matthews.
David is the ACPO lead for Homicide Investigation and for Continuous Improvement. He holds an Honours Degree in Geography from Salford University and a Diploma in Criminology from the University of Cambridge. He was awarded the Queen’s Police Medal in 2010.
David is also responsible for Integrity and Transformation within the force.
