We assess all of our policies for their impact upon equality and the protected characteristics defined in the Equality Act 2010. This process is now known as Equality Analysis (EA) but has previously been called Diversity Impact Assessment.
This helps us to meet the public sector equality duty. This duty is split into general and specific duties. The general duty requires public authorities, in the exercise of their functions, to have due regard to the need to:
• Eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation, and any other conduct that is prohibited by or under the Act
• Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a relevant protected characteristic and people who do not share it
• Foster good relations between people who share a relevant protected characteristic and those who do not share it.
We hope you agree that equality needs to be at the heart of everything we do as an employer and as a service provider.
