What can you expect from the Media Team?
The media desk is open for enquiries from 8am-5pm Monday to Friday. The office number is 0114 2523848.
There will be occasions when staff are in meetings and unable to answer the office phone. In these circumstances, please leave your enquiry on our voicemail system or email the team on firstname.lastname@example.org and staff will get back to you on their return to the office.
Your first point of contact for any media enquiries outside of these hours is the main South Yorkshire Police switchboard on 101 who will liaise with the Force Operations Room to decide how best to respond. This could be a quick reply with some basic details or they could contact the Media Team.
The Media Team operates a limited on-call facility for dealing with major incidents involving South Yorkshire Police. This doesn’t include routine media enquiries, for example, following a road closure notification from the Force Incident Manager or updates on incidents.
The on-call officer is not on regular duty or based at work and doesn’t have access to the usual office facilities or computer applications. For example, we cannot obtain pictures out of hours following sentencing at court or search for information on incidents.
All on-call officers have BlackBerry devices that enable them to access email and everyone in the Media Team will receive emails that are sent to email@example.com
However, the on-call facility deals with major incidents only, so email media requests sent to this address may not be answered until the following weekday morning, at 8am.
