Head of Learning and Development

Head of Learning and Development at South Yorkshire Police is Joanne Buck who has worked at the Force for 23 years.

Joanne has responsibility for leading the development and delivery of learning programmes through the force Training Centre (Robert Dyson House).

Her role is to identify training needs at an organisation, team and individual level and to prioritise them in line with the organisations objectives and priorities.

She leads a team of 84 staff who work across four portfolios. As head of learning and development I have responsibility for the smooth running of the training function within Rober Dyson House. The training centre house conference rooms, 20 classrooms, gym/fitness facilities and a state of the art Immersive Learning suite.

Joanne represents SYP regionally at the heads of training meetings and from May 2012 she will have a new role as Head of Training for both South Yorkshire Police and Humberside Police and will be responsible for two training centres and a team of 140.

In 2000 she completed an MBA, is a member of CIPD and holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Education.  She currently attends the City Region Leadership programme in order to build on her opportunities to network and collaborate.

Joanne has previously worked in a variety of roles at SYP including in Special Branch, Corporate Development Department and within Training.
