Head of Learning and Development

Operating from it’s two key sites at Robert Dyson House and Courtland Road the function is responsible for the design and delivery of training for Humberside and South Yorkshire police. The team also offers training services to other police forces and partners across a wide range of topics including firearms licensing, surveillance and vulnerability to name but a few.

Since joining South Yorkshire Police in 1994, Temporary Supt Roberts has worked in a number of different operational roles at all ranks and has also had the opportunity to work Nationally on secondment with the NPIA on the Workforce Wodernisation Programme in partnership with the majority of Home office forces and key stakeholders including the Home office, ACPO, Police Federation and UNISON.

His recent roles have included Temporary Head of the South Yorkshire Business Change Directorate and the Head of the Force Change programme leading the implementation of the LPU operating model and a number of demand reduction initiatives including work on Looked after children, MFH’s, Hospitals, Drive off’s, retail crime, sudden death reporting  as part of the overall effort to reduce the demands on operational staff.

The key challenges for the function and indeed South Yorkshire and Humberside over the next three years include;

1)      The recruitment of approximately 750 police officers  

2)       Northgate Connect Programme

3)      Mobile Information Programme

In addition to his day job Temporary Supt Roberts is presently going through process to achieve Initial Public Order Commander accrediatation.

Temporary Supt Roberts has a BSc (Hons) in Business Administration from Manchester University.
