With over 1100 officers and staff Operational Support Services (OSS) is the largest department within South Yorkshire Police providing specialist support to the four policing districts 24-hours a day, seven days a week.

Air Operations our most recognisable resource supports our officers on the ground using its state of the art camera system to help pursue criminals, locate missing people and recover vehicles, property and drugs
Communications means two things in the policing world and this department deals with call handling and crime recording rather than media, public relations and marketing
Contingency planning - planning for and managing potential risks and emergency situations in partnership with other local agencies
Dog support - our super canines that do more than just detaining criminals
Firearms support specially trained officers who deal with everything from armed protection for royal visits, dealing with spontaneous incidents and educating young people on the dangers of guns and knives
Mounted section are officers on horseback supporting the Force with tackling antisocial behaviour, crowd control and ceremonial duties
Roads policing includes our Road Crime Unit, Motorcycle Wing and Serious Collisions Unit who work to tackle criminality and reduce casualties on the county’s roads
Specialist search our specialist search teams are trained to search for missing people, stolen property, drugs and other evidence in a variety of locations and conditions. Specialist search officers are part of the Tactical Support Group
Tactical support our officers in the Tactical Support Group are trained to deal with any public order situation. Dog Support Unit, Mounted and specialist search officers are all part of the Tactical Support Group.
