Police staff overview

South Yorkshire Police is not simply about the uniformed officers serving on the streets of the county. Just as important are the 2,345*-strong team of professional support staff working behind the scenes to provide the organisational capability required to police South Yorkshire.

Amongst other roles, members of support staff assist visitors to police stations, deal with emergency 999 calls, prepare case papers for prosecution, provide nursing services, recruit and train police officers, facilitate the technology and systems we use, manage finances, maintain our buildings and many more.

Such work should not be regarded as simply 'supporting' the more public elements of South Yorkshire Police. Support staff are a fully integrated and essential part the organisation, making vital contributions at every level of every department. As a police service we just wouldn't exist without them.

If you are interested in working for South Yorkshire Police but don't see yourself in a uniform, then a police staff role could be ideal for you - particularly if you have any specialist skills or experience to offer.
