SYP Response:

I approached our Crime Management System (CMS) Administrator for assistance with your request. The CMS system is used to record complaints or allegations or those matters, which the Home Office specify should be recorded as ‘crimes’.

She provided me with the enclosed data and the following explanation of her search criteria:

RACIAL OFFENCE COUNT –

This is a count of offences recorded on the CMS crime register between 01-Apr-2016 and 31-Mar-2017, where the offence was recorded with an Aggravating Factor – Racial.

RACIAL VICITM DETAILS –

Of the above offence count, I have a provided a breakdown of the victim’s gender, age and ethnicity.

RELIGION OFFENCE COUNT –

This a count of offences recorded on the CMS crime register between 01-Apr-2016 and 31-Mar-2017, where the offence was recorded with an Aggravating Factor – Religion.

RACIAL VICITM DETAILS –

Of the above offence count, I have a provided a breakdown of the victim’s gender, age and religion. Please note – the Religion marker within CMS is not a mandated requirement therefore it may not be recorded.

PERCEIVED RELIGION - Of the above offence Religion count, I have a provided a breakdown of the Perceived Religion aggravating factor and victim’s religion. Some offences recorded with the Religion aggravating factor may not be recorded with a Perceived Religion aggravating factor.

Please note – we do not expect a count of victims to reflect a count of offences as some offences can be recorded without a victim and in some cases more than one victim may be recorded.
