Decision Papers

1. Expansion of Taser Capability

ACC Sahota outlined that the purpose of the report was to provide SCT with the necessary information to determine the numbers of additional Taser units required to achieve appropriate expansion of this capability in South Yorkshire. This was prompted by an invitation from the Home Office for Forces to submit bids by Friday 9 January from 10,000 Taser units being made available.

The report recommended that SCT approve a bid for a further 70 Taser units to meet with the recommended expansion and deployment of Taser in SYP.

He said that the recommended expansion of 70 units would provide SYP with the capability to deploy Taser officers from each response base and TSG facility in addition to the existing deployment of ARV officers.

SCT agreed that a bid for 70 Tasers be submitted to the Home Office.

2. 101 Single Non Emergency Number and Provision of SCC Out of Hours Service

ACC Holt said the purpose of this report was to gain approval from SCT for the continuation of the Single Non Emergency Number for Sheffield and to provide three Out of Hours telephone contact services for Sheffield City Council - these being Homeless Persons, Audit social Care and Children Social Care.

The paper recommended that SCT agreed the continuation of 101 in Sheffield and to approve the provision (subject to a Service Level Agreement) of three Out of Hours Services for Sheffield City Council.

SCT approved the paper which was to be taken to the Police Authority by ACC Holt on 9 January 2009.
