Wildlife crime

South Yorkshire enjoys a rich diversity of wildlife across both its rural and urban areas.

Unfortunately, these areas see a range of crime specific to wildlife or their environment; this can range from badger baiting through to antisocial use of 4x4 vehicles on arable land.

South Yorkshire Police is committed to work with all agencies across a wide range of wildlife, environmental and countryside issues to protect animals from such crimes.

We have over 20 fully trained Wildlife Crime Officers (WCOs), who cover all South Yorkshire districts (Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster) whose remit includes promoting preventative measures, delivering countywide proactive work, and providing a prompt and effective enforcement service.
