Hoyland SNT Site

Area Description

The Hoyland SNT comprises of a number of small towns and villages on the south west end of Barnsley. These include the communities of Tankersley, Birdwell, Hoyland Common, Hoyland, Elsecar, Jump and Hemingfield to the south of the Dearne Valley by pass.

Sixty-six-year-old Margaret Wilkin is due to retire from South Yorkshire Police Special Constabulary this week after 34 years in the job.
Police have charged a 38-year-old man with the murder of 33-year-old Bahman Yusif Amin. Bahman Yusif Amin, from Firth Park, Sheffield died as a result of the multiple injuries he sustained from the assault on Andover Street in Pitsmoor on, Monday night (17 June).

Four hundred and seventy one plants with an estimated street value of £295,000 have been recovered across Barnsley during a month long crackdown on cannabis cultivation across the Borough.

Operation Barracuda has been running throughout May and was set up to target individuals involved in cannabis cultivation.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Wilkie who led the operation said: “The operation was set up to target people who we believed were involved in cannabis cultivation. We acted on information received and visited over 80 properties across Barnsley.
