South Yorkshire Police and South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue team up to run a safety event for residents in Barnsley

South Yorkshire Police and South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue along with partners including the NHS are running a free safety event for the over 60s at the Lifewise Centre, in Hellaby, Rotherham.

The ‘Get Lifewise’ safety event is taking place between 9.45am and 2.30pm on Wednesday, 21 November, 2012, and is aimed at people over the age of 60 in the Barnsley area. Get Lifewise is an initiative to make people living in Barnsley feel safer and healthier and enable them to deal with any difficult situations they may encounter.

The event is based at the Lifewise Centre which is a purpose built facility with a life size set representing a small town featuring houses, shops, an interchange and full size bus, a park, a police station with cell and much more. You will be able to take part in a number of voluntary activities, delivered by partner agencies that will focus on health, crime prevention, personal safety and community services.

Project Officer, Andy Foster from South Yorkshire Police said: “Get Lifewise is an enjoyable and fun event with messages delivered in a unique environment. It is a great opportunity to talk to our partners who are on hand to offer advice on subjects including home and fire safety as well as dealing with doorstep callers.”

If you are interested in attending this free event please contact the Lifewise Centre on 01709 832455 or E-mail: lifewisebooking@southyorks.pnn.police.uk Admission is by prior booking only and places are limited.
