Police seek witnesses to serious collision

Police are appealing for witnesses to a collision in the Shiregreen area of Sheffield this morning in which a school girl was seriously hurt.

The incident happened at 8.40am today, 9 March, on Bellhouse Road, around 30 metres south of its junction with Beck Road.

A silver Vauxhall Astra was heading along Bellhouse Road towards Ecclesfield Road when it appears the seven-year-old girl ran into the carriageway from the driver’s offside and collided with the vehicle.

The youngster, from the Shiregreen area, suffered a break to her right thigh bone and is currently detained in Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

The car driver, a 27-year-old local man, was unhurt.
