Officers at Elmfield Park to seek more witnesses to Casey stabbing

South Yorkshire Police officers will be at Doncaster’s Elmfield Park today and over the weekend following last night’s candlelit vigil for teenager Casey Kearney, who was stabbed to death on Tuesday.

Detective Superintendent Terry Mann, who is leading the murder investigation, said: “We’ve been encouraged by the public’s response, but we are still appealing for more witnesses to come forward.”

He urged anyone with information about the incident on Tuesday lunchtime to contact the incident room on: 01709 443510 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on: 0800 555111.

Before the park reopened to the public last night, officers escorted members of school girl Casey’s family to the area so that they could have some time alone prior to the vigil.

Yesterday, Hannah Bonser, 26, of Cusworth House, Doncaster, appeared at Doncaster Magistrates’ Court charged with the murder of Casey-Lyanne Kearney, 13, from Rossington, and two counts of possession of a bladed article. Bonser was remanded in custody for a week to appear at Sheffield Crown Court.
