38 arrests in two weeks for Road Crime Unit

In the last two weeks, South Yorkshire Police’s Road Crime Unit has arrested 38 suspects on South Yorkshire’s Roads.

A busy two-week period started with the Road Crime Unit recovering a kilogram of heroin and making three arrests following surveillance of a car travelling from London to Sheffield.

A Sheffield man was arrested for breach of a court order and when his vehicle was searched the team recovered six samurai swords, two daggers and a pair of nunchucks. The man can now add the possession of firearms and offensive weapons to his terms of arrest.

Three more men were caught at a motorway service area while in the process of selling a vehicle stolen from Scunthorpe allegedly using false number plates.  The day after another man was arrested following a successful pursuit after travelling on the M1 at over 100mph and making threats to police officers.

A stolen truck and forklift truck worth £70,000 was also recovered from Dinnington.

Commenting on a busy two weeks for his team, head of the Road Crime Unit Inspector Simon Slack said: “The Road Crime Unit’s job is to target serious criminals when they are at their most vulnerable, on the road, and, disrupt serious criminal activity. Thirty-eight arrests, recovery of stolen property, drugs and offensive weapons are all excellent results and the South Yorkshire public should be reassured that we proactively target known suspects to remove them from our communities and our roads. It also sends out a strong message to those who may think that their criminality will go undetected.”
