Barnsley Police Ball 2010

Police in Barnsley dusted off their tuxes and frocks last week for one of the most exciting date in the police calendar- the annual Barnsley Police Ball, 2010.

The prestigious event, organised by Barnsley enquiry desk assistant, Sheena Lyden, was this year held at Ardsley House, Ardsley. It gave officers and police staff the opportunity to let their hair down and enjoy exciting entertainment; with over £2.500 raised on the night going straight to Help for Heroes.

Help for Heroes charity was launched in 2007, raising over £1m a month since and still going strong with followers including The Royal Family, Jeremy Clarkson and countless members of the public across the UK.

Chief Superintendent Andy Brooke launched this year’s event, with an opening speech.

“This year has seen an overall reduction in crime in Barnsley of 14% and this continues the theme of crime being at it’s lowest in 21 years. This just wouldn’t have been possible without the tireless work of all our police officers, staff and support of our partners and I hope staff take this opportunity tonight to celebrate their hard work and achievements.”

Yorkshire Volunteers Military Band played a drumming delight to really set the night off with a bang.

A raffle and auction was held throughout the night with all proceeds going straight into the charity fund.

Some of the amazing prizes on offer at the auction included a once in a lifetime opportunity to spend the day with the Red Devils Parachute Regiment Free Fall Team and an evening for 2 at the Catterick Garrison Summer Ball.

Chief Superintendent Andy Brooke, “It was a brilliant night and was made even better by the fact we were able to raise a substantial amount for such a worthy charity. I would like to thank Sheena for taking the time to organise the event and everyone who came and made it such a special night.”
