Local police promote the power of the ‘no cold calling zone’

Penistone Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) are promoting the power of the ‘no cold calling zone’ after a couple who were attempting to make door to door sales in the village of Millhouse Green on 16 November, were advised by officers of the area’s firm rules on cold calling.

Millhouse Green, has been a ‘no cold calling zone’ for approximately 8 weeks. This means that the activity of cold-calling is not welcomed in the area and is discouraged by residents.

A male aged 49 and a female aged 52, both from Sheffield, were visiting addresses in the area, attempting to buy unwanted gold and silver from residents. Officers approached the couple and explained to them that the area has a cold-calling ban and described the distress and issues door-to-door visits can bring to a the majority of elderly residents whom reside in Millhouse Green.

Penistone Safer Neighbourhood Team PC Andy Thompson said, “Zones like the one in Millhouse Green have been set up for justified reasons and we would ask people to respect this. The strength of the ‘no cold calling zone’ is shown here and it’s great to see that neighbours were quick to react and reported the cold callers who ignored the signs.”
