Dogs

Section 68 of the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act commenced on 6 April 2008 making  local authorities solely responsible, at all times, for dealing with stray dogs.

If you find a stray dog you should contact the relevant local authority as below

If you believe a dog is being neglected or abused please contact the Royal Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) on 0300 1234 999.

Alternatively, call your local Council or report this to us on 101.

South Yorkshire Police are responsible for:
  • Dangerous dogs
  • If you've been bitten by a dog
  • If you've hit a dog with a vehicle
  • If you suspect someone has a banned breed of dog, for example, a pit bull terrier
