Police visit nursery kids to explain their role
Cudworth Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) visited St Joseph’s Day Nursery, Doncaster Road on Monday 30 November to educate the 4-yr-old youngsters on the role of the police and promote important safety advice.
Parents of one of the children at the nursery suggested the idea as they felt youngsters of that age don’t often have the opportunity to engage with representatives from the emergency services and a good understanding from an early age would be beneficial in raising awareness of important issues which might affect them late in life.
Topics of discussion included stranger danger, the importance of staying with parents and not wandering off.
The children even got the rare opportunity to drive the police vehicle (with the engine off of course!) and operate the lights and sirens.
Cudworth SNT PC Leanne Reis said, “The children clearly enjoyed the morning and I feel it helped them understand who the police are and what they do. It also gave us the chance to promote the basic message that you must not break the law otherwise you may be punished.”
