Police appeal after man dies in Balby Road collision, Doncaster

Police are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian died when he suffered a head injury in a traffic collision in Doncaster just before 11pm on Saturday, 11 May.

A black VW Passat, a private hire taxi, was travelling towards Doncaster town centre on the A630 Balby Road when it was in collision with 33-year-old Maciej Sowulewski, near to the junction with Mansfield Road.

Officers believe the pedestrian, from Balby, had crossed the central reservation and the outside lane of the dual carriageway before the collision happened in the inside lane, causing damage to the front of the Passat.

Polish-born Mr Sowulewski, who had lived in Britain for six years, sustained a severe head injury and was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary, where he died shortly after 11am on Sunday, 12 May.

The driver of the Passat was not injured.
