Rotherham

Crime in Rotherham is at its lowest level for three years.

In the twelve months up to March 2008 overall crime dropped by 8 per cent compared with the previous year.

In the same period burglary went down by 12 per cent reaching a six year low while criminal damage fell 18 per cent.

Working towards keeping crime down is the borough’s 376 officers and 91 members of support staff.

Chief Superintendent Matt Jukes, policing head for the district, is committed to tackling the things that matter most to the public.

To do this dedicated safer neighbourhood teams have been set up to tackle issues that affect people’s day-to-day lives, like criminal damage and nuisance behaviour.

The teams include police officers, special constables and local authority wardens making them multi-agency crimebusters.
