Rotherham Police Constable Mark Hallam to represent Great Britain

On Sunday, 2 June, Police Constable Mark Hallam from the Rotherham Offender Management Unit will be travelling to Dresden, Germany to take part in the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championships.

Mark started his ice hockey career when he was 12-years-old after watching local team The Sheffield Steelers at Sheffield Arena.

He later went on to play inline hockey when he was 15-years-old in sports halls around Sheffield and now plays for the Hallamshire Hornets in Rotherham.

Important advice on keeping your homes secure

Police in Barnsley and Rotherham would like to remind residents that the good weather could easily cause a sudden rise in burglaries as people leave themselves vulnerable to opportunists and sneaks.

Most burglary offences occur in homes where doors and windows are left insecure.

The warmer weather will bring out burglars as people leave doors and windows open or on a locked latch with handbags, purses and keys left very close to the open door. Homeowners are also leaving ground floor doors and windows open or unlocked, which burglars can easily reach and climb through.

Four arrests made in Eastwood, Rotherham

On Monday, 22 April, 2013 police in Rotherham searched a property in Eastwood, Rotherham and found two trials bikes believed to be stolen, heroin, crack cocaine and a small amount of herbal cannabis.

Two 17-year-old boys, one 15-year-old boy and one 24-year-old man, all from Eastwood were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a class A drug and handling stolen goods.

They have all been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Rotherham reports one hundred and sixty-one shoplifting offences throughout April

Throughout the month of April, 2013, police in Rotherham have received reports of one hundred and sixty-one shoplifting offences across the borough. These incidents equate to a total amount of £16,500 stolen from retailers in Rotherham.

The top three products are food, alcohol and cosmetics, followed closely by clothing and electrical items. There were 56 incidents of stolen food, 35 thefts of alcohol and 19 thefts of cosmetics.

Officers have successfully dealt with 78 of the one hundred and sixty-one shoplifting offences and charged 42 people with 49 of the offences.

Officers tackle the increasing problem of forecourt crime at petrol stations in Rotherham

In the first quarter of 2013, there have been 97 incidents in Rotherham of drivers making off from petrol stations without paying for fuel dispensed. The number of incidents are increasing.

Police appeal for witnesses to an alleged assault in Rother Valley Country Park

Police in Rotherham are appealing for help from the public to identify a man involved in a serious assault on a 34-year-old Asian man in the Rother Valley Country Park.

At approximately 5.30pm on Saturday, 20 April, 2013, the alleged assault took place at the north west corner of the park between the lake and a railway foot bridge that leads to the village of Beighton.

The man is believed to have punched the victim twice in the face causing multiple fractures to his jaw area and knocking him to the floor.

Lithuanian man arrested after a number of drive-offs in Rotherham

On Thursday, 25 April, 2013 police officers in Rotherham received information that a vehicle in Wales, Rotherham was responsible for a number of drive-offs at petrol stations in Rotherham. The driver of the vehicle, a 25-year-old man from Lithuania was arrested and charged with using a vehicle without insurance and making off without payment.

The man is also wanted on an international arrest warrant for a serious sexual offence in Lithuania and is currently in the process of being extradited.

Three men charged with conspiracy to commit robbery

Police in Rotherham yesterday, Wednesday, 24 April, charged 24-year-old Brett Haslam from Wales, Rotherham with conspiracy to commit robbery, possession with intent to supply class B drug (amphetamine), possession of a firearm, production of cannabis and aggravated burglary.

Four arrests made in connection with a number of armed robberies in Rotherham

On Tuesday, 23 April, four people from Rotherham were arrested in connection with a number of armed robberies on bookmakers premises in and around Rotherham.

A 24-year-old man from Wales, Rotherham was arrested on conspiracy to commit robbery, possession with intent to supply class B drug (amphetamine,. possession of a firearm and production of cannabis.

The Rotherham Alcohol Referral Scheme proves to be a huge success

Police in Rotherham have been working closely with the Lifeline Rotherham Alcohol Scheme to promote alcohol awareness throughout Rotherham to offenders of alcohol related antisocial behaviour.

The scheme offers people who receive a fixed penalty ticket for being drunk and disorderly the opportunity to waiver their fine of £80 and choose to attend one of the sessions.

Since it started in December, 2012 over 50 adults have chosen to attend, of which none of them have re-offended.
