Becoming a Special

Special Constable on patrol in Barnsley

We encourage men and women from all backgrounds to join the Special Constabulary as it is important that it is representative of the communities it serves.

You must be 18 years of age or over and able to work for a minimum of 16 hours in a month.
You must be honest, in good health and of good character.

You must either be a national of a country within the European Economic Area, or if not have leave to enter or remain in the UK free of restrictions.

We are interested in your potential, not paper qualifications. You must be able to speak and write clear English as you will need to write short reports of incidents and may be asked to give evidence in court.
