We’d like to know what you think
South Yorkshire Police, South Yorkshire Police Authority and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue are interested to know what you think about policing and community safety issues in your area. Your views are important to us and we would like to make sure that you have the chance to influence the way your area is policed. If you live in South Yorkshire and are over the age of 16 years, you can complete the survey.
If you complete a Your Voice Counts survey, we can assure you that:
- all answers will remain confidential and
- you will NOT receive any unsolicited mail.
Should you need further information or assistance in completing the survey, please do not hesitate to contact our Survey Unit on 0114 296 3823 or email pru@southyorks.pnn.police.uk
Objectives
The Your Voice Counts survey exists to:
- provide data which will help to inform the work of your local safer neighbourhood teams
- help the Chief Constable and members of the Police Authority monitor the impact of neighbourhood policing, based on people’s perceptions.
SNTs
South Yorkshire Police, along with partners including the local authorities, has 57 safer neighbourhood teams (SNTs) covering the whole of South Yorkshire:
- 10 in Barnsley
- 18 in Doncaster
- 8 in Rotherham and
- 21 in Sheffield.
SNTs are made up of police officers and council staff whose entire remit is to focus on the needs of the local community.
They will:
- be accessible and visible to the community – where people will know how to contact them and who they are
- engage with the community – ensuring that people have a real say in identifying issues of concern
- work alone and with partners in order to address community concerns.
Your local SNTs also produce a newsletter twice a year detailing they type of work they do to tackle your local community concerns, including those raised in this survey. Look out for your SNT newsletter coming through your letterbox.
Further information about SNTs can be found on our SNT website:

PACT – enabling communities to inform what we do
PACT stands for Partners And Communities Together. PACT gives communities the chance to influence what happens in their neighbourhood. Through PACT the community is able to influence and shape services in their area and to identify and communicate their priorities to the police and partners to help create community spirit and encourage communities to take ownership for an area. Through PACT, safer neighbourhood teams will identify the issues that affect communities the most, and determine three priorities every month for their local neighbourhood.
Further information about PACT can be found on our SNT website:

Analysis
The surveys will be analysed by staff in SYP’s Performance Review Unit and the Police Authority. The results will be considered by the Chief Constable, commanders and members of the Police Authority.
SNT Inspectors will then be required to explain how the results will inform their work.
Focus Groups
Although the results will show us what you feel or think, we also want to know the where and why. If you are able and willing to participate in a focus group, provide your contact details when asked. Participants will be invited to focus groups based on their answers.
Make Your Voice Count
The Chief Constable and members of the Police Authority are committed to community consultation as a means of identifying priorities and improving services. The questionnaires will help to build a clear picture of what the public think and what they would like from us in the future.
Thank you
