Over the last three days we’ve shared the story of Jodie Keegans, 36, who suffered abuse at the hands of her ex-husband, 34-year-old Scott Keegans from Balby.
Keegans was jailed for 18-years last month for the physical and sexual abuse he subjected Jodie to.
Jodie has spoken openly and honestly about her experiences and we hope that her story has encouraged other victims of domestic to tell someone and shows that there is help and support available.
We want to say a massive thank you to Jodie for sharing her story with us and to everyone who took the time to read it, wish Jodie well and share some of their own experiences.
Detective Constable Steve Barnes, is the officer who led the investigation into Scott Keegans. He said: “This has been one of the most horrific cases of domestic abuse I have ever seen during my time as a police officer.
“Jodie has shown incredible bravery, courage and a positive attitude throughout this entire process. She chose to face Keegans in court, which she didn’t have to do, but I knew she was keen to get that sense of closure and to show him just how strong she is and despite what he had put her through, he hadn’t won.
“I want to thank Jodie for sharing her story and I hope that it encourages other victims of domestic abuse of any kind to tell someone. You don’t have to speak to police in the first instance, you can tell a friend, a family member or speak to the domestic violence helpline, available 24/7, on 0808 2000 247. When you are ready to speak to police, we are here to help you and to keep you and your family safe.”
