Barnsley man charged following aggravated burglary

A 35-year-old man has been charged with numerous offences following an aggravated burglary in Barnsley. 

It is reported that on Monday 12 August at 2am a man entered the home of woman and child in Hemmingfield.  It is believed that the man gained access by climbing up a drainpipe and through an open bathroom window. 

The man is then reported to have threatened the victim with a weapon and attempted to sexually assault her. The victim fought the man off and alerted her neighbours to call the police.  

The woman sustained multiple lacerations to her face, that required hospital treatment. 

Daniel Cummins, 35, of St Helens Street, Elsecar has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, committing an offence with the intention of committing a relevant sexual offence and burglary dwelling with violence. 

He is currently remanded in custody and will appear before Barnsley Magistrates Court today, Tuesday 13 August.
