Officers from the Central Barnsley Neighbourhood Team have joined forces with Barnsley Council and partners as part of a borough-wide initiative in the town centre.
‘Joining Forces’ has been launched to help provide reassurance, keep residents safe and make Barnsley an enjoyable place to visit, live and work.
The initiative will bring together key members of staff from SYP and Barnsley council. As part of the move, the council and the Barnsley Central Neighbourhood Team, the Council’s Markets Service and Parking Services, and other partners will move into a base at The Glass Works, allowing them to deliver a partnership approach from a centralised location at the heart of the town centre redevelopment.
The official launch, held today, Wednesday 7 August at Barnsley Market saw representatives from each organisation come together and talk to the public.
Barnsley’s Chief Superintendent Scott Green said: “Our priority is protecting our communities and making Barnsley a safe place to visit, work and live.
“Our Central Neighbourhood Team work closely with partners and by joining forces will be able to further their working relationship and ensure that communities are given a united response to the issues that matter to them the most.”
Councillor Jenny Platts, Cabinet spokesperson for Communities, added: “We’re delighted to be launching Joining Forces – a further enhancement to make Barnsley a safe and welcoming town for our residents and visitors.
“The co-location of key partners will improve information sharing, enable better decision making and help provide coordinated and timely responses to issues as they arise.
“We’re pleased with the progress made by the Safer Neighbourhood Service since its inception in 2017, and want to continue the good work the team has been doing through Joining Forces.”
