To quote Chief Superintendent Shaun Morley ‘it’s been 12 months of change but the passion, commitment, drive and determination of the Doncaster team has resulted in this being one of our most successful years to date.

“Over the last year we have changed the way we operate at Doncaster. We are now far more proactive in the way we work, placing officers at the heart of where our demand is so they can really tackle the issues we know are of concern to our communities, and the results speak from themselves”

On Wednesday 12 February Assistant Chief Constable Tim Forber, Police and Crime Commissioner Dr Alan Billings and Doncaster’s Command Team joined officers from the Doncaster team to celebrate some of their best work.

At the ceremony, held at the Mansion House in Doncaster, nine awards were presented to the nominees for their actions, commitment and dedication over the past year.

The award for the 2018 PCSO of the year went to joint winners, PCSOs Alex Kirk and Natalie Martin who both work on the Central Neighbourhood Team.

The reason there were two winners is that the PCSOs work as a pair in the town centre of Doncaster, and over the last year both Alex and Natalie have shown their commitment to the area they cover by demonstrating an outstanding knowledge of local offenders, who they associate with and where to find them.

This knowledge and experience has resulted in many persistent and prolific offenders being detained for probation breaches before they have an opportunity to commit further offences and cause further harm to the public.

In addition, their proactive work in the town centre has significantly contributed to the management of the town centre’s complex needs cohort and partners who work with South Yorkshire Police have highlighted the work of this year’s winners.

Their determination and persistence has earnt them the nick name, collectively, as ‘JAWS’ as they are known to ‘circle’ persons of interest until officers arrive to make an arrest.

On more than one occasion, offender management teams have contacted the two PCSOs asking for the location of a wanted person only to find that they are already stood talking to them.

Despite the demand placed on these two officers, they play a key part in the partnership management of the town centre and their work has led to increased confidence of those who work, live and visit the town centre

They are a credit to South Yorkshire Police.

The remaining awards presented at the ceremony were:

  • Lifetime Achievement in Policing Cheryl Fletcher
  • Special Constable SC Becky Jo Rushton
  • Partnership Working Award  Team EPIC – PC Vicki Lister and Marcus Isman-Egal (YOT)
  • Support Staff Member  Sue Siviter
  • PCSO of the Year   joint winners,  PCSO Alex Kirk and PCSO Natalie Martin
  • Student Officer of the Year  PC Lynsey Kingston
  • Investigation of the Year   DC Michelle Thompson and DC Emma Taylorson, Prison Investigation Team
  • Team of the Year, joint winners, Team Fortify & Protecting Vulnerable People Missing From Home coordinators Fiona Ginbey and Debra Harkins

Congratulations to all those who were honoured this year. Doncaster is a better place for the work you do and your dedication is hugely appreciated.
