An early morning warrant kick-started our Sheffield South East Neighbourhood Team’s day of action yesterday (24 October) as they focused on issues in Handsworth and Richmond.

A 22-year-old man was arrested for possession with intent to supply during the raid at a property on Richmond Park Rise. Officers also seized a quantity of drugs and a number of knives from the address.

The man has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Neighbourhood officers were joined by Immigration Officers, the city’s Licensing Department and Parking Services who carried out checks on a range of premises.

Sgt Katie Rowland-Wilkinson said: “Days like this are about enforcement, but we also shape them around important people in the community and yesterday we focused on local schools and their pupils.

“PCSO Reynolds and PCSO Briggs spent time with around 60 children at Ballifield Primary School planting bulbs and litter-picking which went down a storm!

“We also carried out parking patrols near to St Joseph’s School, as dangerous driving and irresponsible parking is an issue that we get contacted about all the time.

“Just being visible and speaking to parents can help encourage people to think about the consequences driving offences can have. We also get to have conversations with children and show that we are there for them and part of their community.”

Officers also carried out truancy checks, with one child being spoken to about being absent from school.

In the afternoon, the team joined our Mini Police recruits at Athelstan Primary School, who were armed with litter-pickers and bin bags and tidying up the streets around school.

Operation Slowdown, targeting speeding drivers on Retford Road, lead to one advice letter being issued and a stolen motorbike being seized on Hastilar Road South.

Sgt Rowland-Wilkinson added: “These days only work when all agencies work together, thank you to everyone who worked really hard to make this happen.”
