Man charged in connection to Barnsley firearms discharge

Detectives have charged a man in connection to a firearms discharge in Goldthorpe last weekend.

Just before midnight on Saturday 11 March 2023, officers were called to a report of a firearms discharge on Washington Road, Goldthorpe.

Emergency services attended and detectives immediately launched an investigation and discovered what they suspect to be evidence of a discharge inside an address.

A man is believed to have entered an address and shot at a man in his 20s who received minor injuries as a result. A firearm was located and seized at the scene by officers.

Steven Watkins, 38, of no fixed address was arrested in Cornwall on 15 March on suspicion of attempted murder. He has since been charged with attempted murder and two counts of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

He has been remanded into police custody and will appear before Sheffield Magistrates’ today (18 March).
