Scooter rider dies following Barnsley collision

Officers are appealing for witnesses to a collision in the Worsbrough area of Barnsley, in which a 26-year-old man died.

The collision occurred at around 8.10pm last night (Wednesday 4 July), when a silver Gilera scooter travelling along Vernon Road towards Ward Green, left the carriageway for reasons unknown and collided with a wall close to the junction with High Ridge.

The man riding the bike, aged 26, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed and are being supported by officers.

There were a number of cars in the area at the time of the collision and police are keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened, or who saw the manner of driving prior to the collision.
