Police investigating an incident in which a man reportedly asked a young girl to get into his vehicle are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

At around 8pm on Monday 10 September, it was reported that a 13-year-old girl was walking along Owlthorpe Greenway, when a vehicle, descried as a white, small car-derived van, pulled up alongside her and the driver asked her if she was ok.

As the girl continued to walk on, the driver is said to have followed her a short distance before asking her to get into the vehicle. When she refused, he drove away from the area, heading towards Rother Valley Country Park. The girl was not injured in the incident.

The driver is described as black, in his 50s, with a long curly beard with a bit of grey in it and was wearing a blue headscarf.

Police investigating want to hear from anyone who thinks they may have seen the vehicle along that road, in the area on Monday evening, or any other suspicious activity.
