Doncaster man assaulted during shop burglary

Detectives investigating an incident in which a shopkeeper was assaulted during a burglary in Doncaster are appealing for information.

At around 4.15am on the morning of Monday 14 January, Zaff’s Convenience Store on Littlemoor Lane, Balby, was broken into.

The alarm was activated and the owner, who lives nearby, went into the shop to find that the till had been damaged and cigarettes and lottery cards taken.

The offender, thought to have broken into the building via the loft, was found hiding in the flat upstairs by the shopkeeper. He is then said to have attacked him, resulting in the shopkeeper, aged 63, suffering cuts, bruising and swelling to his face.

The offender left the property via an upstairs window, leaving empty handed. He is described as wearing a black hooded top, grey jogging bottoms and had his face covered. He is said to be skinny and around 5ft 9ins tall.
