Welcome message from the Neighbourhood Inspector Rebecca Richardson

Hi, I am Inspector Rebecca Richardson, I cover all areas of Barnsley with the exception of the Town Centre. My teams are broken down into Barnsley West, Barnsley South, Barnsley South East, Barnsley North and Barnsley North East.

I have over 14 years’ experience as a police officer and love working across the Neighbourhood Teams serving Barnsley; our officers have passion and dedication for their areas, creating a safer and more enjoyable area for those who live and work here.

Neighbourhood policing has great benefits, it enables us to work closely with the public, community groups, partner agencies and businesses to be able to reduce crime and solve re-occurring and community issues.

This style of policing enables us to be part of the community and adapt problem solving approaches to local issues.

The past 12 months have been challenging for everyone and officers are keen to start engaging with you face to face again, understand your concerns and take action. We are incredibly grateful for the support given to us during this difficult and challenging time and look forward to seeing you all out enjoying Barnsley once again.

Your local police station is:

  • Address issues with speeding in the Dearne Area

Speeding is an issue in our area and we would like to see more police patrols dedicated to this issue

We did...

We have listened to the public as to where the main areas of concern regarding speeding are. We continue to run regular operations at these locations and any drivers found travelling over the limit are referred to camera safety partners. Areas of concern are identified in the PACT meeting and are reviewed each time.

We'd like you to tackle anti-social behaviour in our area, specifically we are having a lot of problems in the Thurnscoe area.

We did...

We have noticed a decline in the number of ASB issues we have been having throughout the Dearne, especially in the Thurnscoe area. We have upped our patrols at all times of day and into the late evening when the problems are more prevalent. We have also had new cameras installed to help identify any people causing the issues
We try and update the public on our social media to let them know what we are doing in the area. We are also working closely with Stagecoach buses due to the services being stopped at certain times. We urge members of the public to report any problems either via 101, online or on crime stoppers.

What are you doing about all of the stolen cars in the Dearne?

We did...

When a stolen car is located in the Dearne we always get them recovered and sent off for CSI examination, which will hopefully identify an offender. We do extensive checks of CCTV from where the vehicles were stolen and the place where they are found. A number of key arrests have been made in the last few months and offenders are being processed for these offences.
