Inspector NPPF Step 3 (In-force selection process) / Inspector Transferee

If you have the drive, the vision and qualities to become an Inspector at South Yorkshire Police, we want to hear from you. The force is seeking applications from internal or external Police Sergeants (Detective or Uniform) to assist in our quest to be the best and ensure the force continues to improve, delivering the highest quality service for members of the public.  The promotion process will be extremely competitive with only the very best candidates being successful.

Substantive Inspectors from external forces can also apply for this process as a transferee.

About the role

As an Inspector, you will play an intrinsic part in ensuring the public receives the very best service from us, by working proactively and collaboratively with colleagues. The key aims of South Yorkshire Police should always be at the forefront of everything you do.

We are looking for leaders who will:

  • Motivate and inspire staff, engaging with them and implementing change effectively
  • Have operational credibility
  • Be able to drive, improve and deliver performance outcomes
  • Be truly committed and passionate about the service provided to the public of South Yorkshire

The process will open on the 28th January 2019 and will consist of the following:

Step 1: Application

You will be required to submit an application form confirming you meet the criteria along with a copy of your last completed (signed off PDR) and a copy of your current PDR showing evidence of CPD activity.

Completed applications should be emailed to promotions@southyorks.pnn.police.uk by 17:00 Friday 22nd February 2019.

Application form assessment will take place 27th February – 13th March 2019 and candidates will be notified via email on Friday 15th March 2019 whether their application has been supported.

Candidates who are supported will proceed to Step 2.

Step 2: Work Sample Test (via presentation) and Interview

Interviews will take place 29th March – 9th April 2019.  You will be assessed against the Competency and Values Framework (CVF).

Full details of the process and criteria will be provided at a preparation workshop and will also be included in the Manual of Guidance which will be included in the application pack.

We are able to offer two dates for the preparation workshops.  7th February 2019 1500-1700 at SYP Headquarters, Carbrook House, 5 Carbrook Hall Road, Sheffield, S9 2EH (S9 2EG satnav) and 13th February 2019 1600-1800 at South Yorkshire Police Training Centre, Robert Dyson House, Unit 5, Doncaster Road, Wath Upon Dearne, S63 7EF.

Chief Superintendent Promotion Process/Transferee

The Chief Constable of South Yorkshire Police is looking for an outstanding leader with the drive, vision and qualities to undertake the role of Rotherham District Commander.  There may also be an opportunity to appoint a second Chief Superintendent, but this will be subject to candidate performance during the assessment process and our ongoing resourcing profile.

The process is also open to current substantive Chief Superintendents looking to transfer to South Yorkshire Police.

About the role

As a Chief Superintendent, you will form part of our wider senior leadership team, working collectively with colleagues to deliver excellent policing services. You will play a critical lead role in operational policing for major or critical events or incidents.

The successful candidate will hold the highest levels of operational credibility and will:

  • Be an inspirational leader with the ability to engage staff and implement change effectively.
  • Be operationally credible with experience of leading a range of policing services.
  • Have the ability to connect with officers, staff and key stakeholders at all levels to effectively deliver excellent and high quality policing to the public of South Yorkshire.
  • Demonstrate substantial evidence of their ability to drive, improve and deliver performance outcomes.
  • Be truly committed and passionate about the service provided to the public of South Yorkshire.

Application process

The application process will open on Monday February 18th 2019.

The process consists of two steps.

Step 1: Completion of application form requiring evidence in all 6 of the competencies (Level 3) from the Competency and Values Framework (CVF).  Candidates are also required to submit a copy of their current live PDR and previous completed/signed off PDR.

The closing date for applications is 09:00 Monday 18th March 2019.

Step 2: Work Sample Presentation and Interview.  You will be assessed against the Competency and Values Framework (CVF) Level 3.

Interviews will take place on Tuesday 16th April 2019.
